HOME | I grew up in several places. To keep things short, I was born in the Philippines but did a lot of growing up in Singapore and Guam. I'm not there now because I'm finishing my studies in NYC to pursue my dream of making theatre. Singapore and Guam were huge stepping stones in which I developed my love for the arts. I hope to bring what I've learned there with me in whatever I pursue.
BEST PRODUCTION | Hands down, The Woodsman in 59E59 Theaters, NYC. They just started previews at the New World Stages a few days ago! I happened to catch their closing night back in 2015 and I was mesmerized and inspired. It left me feeling like I just witnessed something truly magical and since then I have never stopped thinking about it. It is everything that I want to do in theatre.
HERO | Reina Yamaguchi Urbein - She was my ballet teacher back on Guam and a good friend and mentor. She was always very honest with me and urged me pursue my dreams of making theatre. Her unending love and passion for dance was something I always aspired to. I hope to be just as passionate about whatever I create just as she was of dance.
Luke Robbins | UNC Wilmington | North Carolina
HOME | I grew up in a few different places. First Statesville, NC, then we moved to Fresno, CA, and then back to Statesville, NC when I was in 7th grade. I left to go to college and have since then continued my exploration
BEST PRODUCTION | The best theater production I've ever seen was Oliver! that my best friend was in in 2nd grade. Planting the seed.
HERO | My professor Christopher Marino is one of my heroes. He helped me fall in love with Shakespeare.
Pete Sheldon | Virginia Tech | Virginia
HOME | I grew up in the tiny, rural town of Big Stone Gap, VA. I am not there currently because my values, identity and culture do not live in that area.
BEST PRODUCTION | One of the best theatre productions I've seen recently is "The Tempest" at ASC in Staunton. In 3 words, it made me feel heart, spirit, and Fun.
HERO | One of my personal heroes has always been John Entwistle, former Bass Guitarist of The Who. He always stunned me with his ease at flying through riffs on the bass guitar. I always strive to find the diciplined easefulness in whatever I'm doing so that nothing is forced, but also things can be changed at the drop of a hat. I also relate to him as the "quiet guy" in the band with a solid presence onstage.
Sasha Brooks | Cambridge University | England
HOME | I grew up in Bushey and decided to branch out by going to University. I'm sure I will return soon :)
BEST PRODUCTION | Robert Icke's Oresteia: Overwhelmed, emotional, questioning.
HERO | This changes on a daily basis. There's nobody in particular that I look up to, as a hero, over everybody else, but I am constantly meeting people who inspire me, and am constantly hearing stories I am inspired by.
Joshua Lacourse | Saint Michael's College | Massachusetts
HOME | I grew up in North Andover MA and while I still live there I go to Saint Michael's College in Vermont where I am currently studying Theatre Arts.
BEST PRODUCTION | The greatest theatre production that I have ever seen was Richard II at Shakespeare & Company in Lennox MA. I was participating in the Shakespeare & Young Company in my junior year of high school and I had the privilege to see the show a total of 8 times. As to how it made me feel: Utterly and refreshingly human.
HERO | From an early age my acting hero has been Jim Carey. From his comedic roles to his dramatic roles, from In Living Color to 500 Days of Summer, Jim Carey has inspired me to become a fantastic actor and a genuine human being.
Erin Williams | University of Utah | Connecticut
HOME | I grew up in Stratford, Connecticut and I am there now. I left for four years to attend university in Utah where I found adventure, loss, fulfillment, and love. I have been lucky to return with my new found knowlege to a loving and supportive family in Stratford. I am am excited to see where life may take me next!
BEST PRODUCTION | The best theatrical production I ever saw was Man of LaMancha at the Long Warf Theater in New Haven. I felt hopeful, desperate, and nauseous.
HERO | One of my heroes is my mom. She is brilliant in her ability to bring authentic joy into any situation and give her whole self and energy to others. Despite how she may feel on the inside, she is willing to look past herself and carry the burdens of others. She makes me smile every day:)
Ronald Prokeš | Cambridge University | Czech Republic
HOME | I grew up in a small village in the Czech republic. I had to commute to kindergarten and then school in Prague. I had a kind of rock star retreat in the country when I was a kid. I’m not there now, because your mind naturally outgrows the parameters of your home town. I understood that if I wanted to make the things I wanted to make and be the person I felt I could be, I would have to move away - sadly.
BEST PRODUCTION | Hamlet directed by Tina Packer. I played Bernardo and then I could just sit back and watch the rest of the play. I wasn't trying to be smarter than the play. I wasn’t looking for devices. I just listened. Hamlet spoke with such anger, vulnerability and intensity that spoke to my angst-driven teenage soul.
HERO | My mother is one of my heroes. She has always supported me in whatever I did. She has gone through a lot in her life and never seems bitter or mean spirited about life. She is the most selfless person I know. I don’t know how she does it. I lose the fight with selfishness and ego on a daily basis.
Victoria Chen | Royal Conservatoire Scotland | Singapore
HOME | I grew up in Singapore, but there's more of the world to experience than whatever is on an island half the size of LA with a population of 5 million. Home is home, but adventure is everywhere.
BEST PRODUCTION | The Drowned Man by Punchdrunk. No audience member left the experience the same person as when they entered. I was screaming internally the entire train ride home and the day after. Three words: Moved into action.
HERO | My grandmother. I don't know how else to elaborate besides telling her life story, but in a nutshell, she does not let the world get her down, she is extremely genuine and loves without conditions.
Brian Watko | Bard College | Maine
HOME | Originally from Philadelphia, I grew up in Maine and am now a bit all over the east coast making theater.
BEST PRODUCTION | Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem with Mark Rylance. Primal. Illuminated. Altered.
HERO | The late David Bowie will always be my hero. Growing up, there was always a version of Bowie that I could listen to, or scream along with, or just appreciate for being unique and exemplary in every way. He was one of those world-changing artists whose existence I took for granted.
Ashley Burton | UNC Wilmington | North Carolina
HOME | I grew up in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I'm not there now because even as a kid, I never felt like there was much for me in Winston, and I was always itching to move to bigger and better places. I still have big city dreams that I'm working on bringing to life, but I'm enjoying bouncing around from place to place for now until I find a good fit.
FAVORITE PRODUCTION | School of Rock: The Musical on Broadway. Three words: MOTIVATED. INSPIRED. FIRE.
HERO | My mom. She's a superhero, my biggest fan, my manager, my therapist, and my best friend. She's also the coolest mom there ever was. Sorry.
HOME | I grew up in Warwickshire in the UK right up until the age of 18, when I moved to Cambridge to go to university and pursue the somewhat niche field of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic studies. Having said that, theatre has always been my primary love and I find myself having to fit my degree around my theatrical projects - which, whilst it may not be all that wise conventionally is certainly the way I like it.
BEST PRODUCTION | Propeller's Henry V. Striking. Unafraid. Fierce.
HERO | One of my heroes:Meryl Streep. To this day I find her the most engaging and versatile actress of our time. Watching her fuel each of her performance's with such joy and authenticity convinces me I've made the right move in wanting to do this myself.
